My grandma always used to tell me:
โNever fuck with a hippo.โ
And on the strength of the trailer for Hungry, she might justโve been right.
Arriving June 23rd via Aura Entertainment, Hungry is a creature feature survival thriller that swaps your usual toothy suspects for something far worse: a bad-tempered river tank with legs. Forget sharks circling politely, this thing lives in the mud, doesnโt blink, and will kill you just for the giggles.
A group of thrill-seeking tourists signs up for a riverboat tour through Louisiana swampland, because apparently a normal holiday wasnโt stressful enough. They get promised an exclusive detour, and wind up drifting straight into the territory of a very hungry hippopotamus lurking under water you definitely donโt want to fall into.
Leading the charge is Madison Davenport, joined by Tracey Bonner, Michel Curiel, Jim Meskimen, Samantha Coughlan, Olivia Bernstone, River Codack, and Joaquim de Almeida, a lineup of people you already know are going to spend a lot of time looking nervously at every single ripple.
Behind the camera, James Nunn (of Shark Bait and One Shot) writes and directs, continuing what appears to be a personal mission to make sure no one trusts the great outdoors ever again. Production comes from Ben Jacques, with executive producers Marc Goldberg, Sarah Gabriel, David Sullivan, Gareth Williams, and Ella Field all along for the ride.
On the effects side, the film leans into practical chaos with makeup work from Dan Martin (Infinity Pool, Color Out of Space), special effects overseen by Kenneth Cassar of Extreme Effects, and additional visual effects handled by Magic Dust VFX. So when things go wrong, and they will, itโs not just a splash and a scream. Itโs going to look like the swamp itself decided to bite back.
