Corporate Retreat is heading into cinemas May 22nd via Western Film Services, and the new teaser makes one thing very clear: synergy can only be achieved through blood.
Lots and lots of blood.
HR will be looking at Odeya Rush, alongside Alan Ruck and Rosanna Arquette, a trio that suggests this retreat is already operating well outside of their guidelines.
The film positions itself somewhere between corporate satire and survival horror, following a group of young executives sent on a luxury bonding trip that rapidly unravels into something far less guided mindfulness exercise and far more who will make it out the otherside with both eyeballs intact?
What begins as an upscale offsite get together, turns into a controlled environment run by a retreat leader with very specific ideas about accountability, punishment, and pain thresholds. The phrase workplace wellness does not survive verynlong out here.
Also caught in the crossfire are Sasha Lane, Elias Kacavas, Ashton Sanders, Ziรณn Moreno, Benjamin Norris, Tyler Alvarez, Kirby Johnson, and Ellen Toland, a group of executives who probably wish theyโd just stayed in the office and suffered through spreadsheets like normal people.
Behind the camera, Aaron Fisher directs from a script he co-wrote with Kerri Lee Romeo, while Uri Singer produces through Passage Pictures. On the effects side, Gary J. Tunnicliffe handles special makeup effects, so when things get bloody, they get properly, unapologetically bloody.
The PR blurb positions the film as something like a collision between The Menu and Saw, which is a polite way of saying: fancy setting, terrible outcomes, and a growing sense that someone really, really hates corporate jargon.
Corporate Retreat opens May 22nd, with advance tickets going on sale April 27th. And if this is anyoneโs idea of a fun bonding experience, it might be time to update the employee handbook.
