Finnish Melodic Metal outfit Blackment are gearing up for the release of their second studio album on June 12th, and theyโ€™re kicking things off with a fresh single that wastes absolutely no time making an impression.

The new track, In Motion, releases as the first preview of the upcoming record, and according to the band, itโ€™s built as a short, hjgh velocity burst of energy designed to hit fast and stick around longer than its runtime suggests.

Guitarist Allan Vรคlimaa describes the track as a concentrated three-minute rush that shifts between slower passages and explosive choruses, built around a melody that actually resurfaced from an old idea buried in his personal archives. That forgotten fragment was reworked from the ground up, ultimately evolving into what the band now consider a completely new composition.

Once the song was locked in, it was also developed into a music video, one that came with its own unexpected challenges. During production, Vรคlimaa experienced a fatigue-related illness that was only diagnosed later, making the shoot a more intense process than initially planned. Despite that, he remained closely involved in directing the video, while much of the filming was handled by Hille Sadehelmi, who also contributes backing vocals on the track and operated the camera during production.

The shoot itself had its own small side story, with equipment reportedly left behind at the location, only to still be there the next morning. Vรคlimaa also highlights the appearance of his new guitar from Raato Custom Guitars, which features in the video and, as he puts it, is the kind of detail that tends to matter a lot to guitar-focused audiences.

Across their career, Blackment have built a recognisable identity around tightly structured Melodic Metal, balancing hook-driven songwriting with intricate guitar work, groove-heavy rhythm sections, layered synths, and a wide vocal range across the six-piece lineup. The band have developed a reputation for energetic live performances, including appearances at events such as Heavy Metal Heart Festival and Helsinkiโ€™s Semifinal club.

With In Motion, Blackment set the tone for whatโ€™s to come on their upcoming album, high momentum that is clearly designed to pull listeners straight into the next phase of their sound.
