Thirty years on from their first recording, US Black/Death veterans Aurora Borealis are still doing what theyโ€™ve always done best, staying aggressive, precise, and completely uninterested in slowing down.

Their new album Disillusioned By The Illusion arrives as a focused, standalone collection rather than a tightly locked concept record. Instead of following a single narrative thread, each track is left to operate on its own terms, giving the record a more varied shape across its 46-minute runtime. The result is still cohesive, but with more breathing room between its extremes.

The bandโ€™s identity remains firmly intact: technical Black/Death Metal built on sharp riff work, relentless percussion, and a dark, controlled intensity thatโ€™s defined their output since the mid-90s.

Aurora Borealis were formed by guitarist and vocalist Ron Vento following his departure from Lestregus Nosferatus, and over the years the project has drawn contributions from well-known names including Tony Laureano, Derek Roddy, and Tim Yeung, helping shape a catalogue thatโ€™s long leaned into technical precision and endurance.

The new record features the current lineup of Vento on guitars and vocals, Eddie Rossi on bass, and Mark Green on drums. It was recorded and produced at Nightsky Recording Studios, keeping things in-house and tightly controlled.

Three decades in, Aurora Borealis arenโ€™t rewriting the blueprint, theyโ€™re just refining how hard they can still hit with it.
