Finnish artist Harri Kauppinen has officially launched his new project, Abandoned Ocean, marking his first foray into English-language material. The debut EP, titled Inner Dusk, serves as a moody intersection of Post-Metal and Doom, blending Kauppinenโs intimate singer-songwriter roots with lo-fi grit.โ
This release ends a decade-long hiatus for Kauppinen, whose last solo effort, Helvetin laulut, arrived in 2016.
“After a long break, it’s great to see that I still get excited when a whole (and damn dark) song is built out of total emptiness.”
While Abandoned Ocean is Kauppinenโs creative vision, the EP features a formidable cast of collaborators familiar to fans of the Finnish heavy scene. He is joined by Teemu Liekkala (Red Eleven) and Otto Nรคrhi (Psychework), both of whom played alongside Kauppinen in the Dark Metal outfit Beyond The Dream for nearly a decade. Adding to the production is legendary Hiili Hiilesmaa, known for his landmark work with HIM, Swallow the Sun, and Kypck.โ
Inner Dusk is described as a journey through a somber, atmospheric world that, despite its gloom, hints at a distant light. Itโs an immersive invitation to step into the shadows and explore the inner dusk that Kauppinen and his team have spent years refining.
Inner Dusk is available now.
