Upcoming horror-thriller Penny Lane is Dead is set to slash its way into theaters this July. Melding 1980s aesthetics with a sharp streak of dark humor and feminine rage, the film has just unveiled its latest trailer, showcasing a neon-soaked night of terror in the Australian suburbs.โ€‹

The story unfolds on a sweltering summer evening in 1986. Seventeen-year-old Penny Lane and her tight-knit group of friends are out to celebrate her recent college acceptance. However, the festivities take a gruesome turn when Pennyโ€™s estranged cousin orchestrates a malicious prank involving spiked cupcakes. What was meant to be a petty act of jealousy quickly devolves into a desperate struggle for survival, as the night descends into a spiral of vengeance and brutal violence.

โ€‹The ensemble cast features a mix of rising stars and genre veterans, including Alexandra Jensen (fresh off her standout role in Talk to Me), Sophia Wright-Mendelsohn, and Tahlee Fereday. They are joined by seasoned Australian actors Steve Le Marquand (Vertical Limit), Fletcher Humphrys (Wolf Creek), and Ben Oโ€™Toole (Hacksaw Ridge).โ€‹

This project marks the feature-length debut for writer-director Miaโ€™Kate Russell. After a successful premiere at the Adelaide Film Festival and an upcoming slot at the Fantastic Film Festival Australia, the film is generating significant buzz for its uncompromising tone.โ€‹

Penny Lane is Dead also serves as the inaugural production from Sanctuary Pictures, the fresh production banner under Umbrella Entertainment. The film boasts a high-profile production team, including Julie Ryan (Late Night with the Devil) and Ari Harrison (Talk to Me).โ€‹

Australian audiences can catch the carnage when the film opens on July 23rd via Umbrella. While horror fans in North America are still waiting on a specific date, a domestic release is expected to be announced shortly.
