Javier Bardem is stepping into one of thriller cinema’s most infamous roles as Max Cady in the upcoming Apple TV+⁠ adaptation of Cape Fear.

Previously played by Robert Mitchum and Robert De Niro, the terrifying ex-con returns in a new 10-episode series debuting June 5th with a two-episode premiere. New episodes will follow weekly through July 31st.

Inspired by Martin Scorsese’s 1991 remake, the series stars Amy Adams and Patrick Wilson as married attorneys Anna and Tom Bowden, whose lives spiral after Cady is released from prison looking for revenge. The supporting cast includes Ron Perlman, Ted Levine, CCH Pounder, Jamie Hector, Margarita Levieva and Patrick Fischler.

The project is based on The Executioners, which inspired both the original 1962 adaptation starring Gregory Peck and Scorsese’s acclaimed remake.

Steven Spielberg executive produces alongside Scorsese and creator Nick Antosca, with Morten Tyldum directing the pilot.
