Finnish Atmospheric Metal group Meret has introduced their music to the world with the debut single, Breath of the Dying Sun. This track serves as the first preview of the band’s upcoming self-titled ep, which is scheduled for release later this year through Inverse Records. The lineup consists of established musicians from the Finnish Metal landscape, with members previously associated with groups such as Hanging Garden, Crimfall, Shamrain, and Where’s My Bible.

The creative driving force behind the project is the exploration of internal darkness and complex emotions. According to Toni Hinkkala, the songwriting process is guided more by specific moods and melodies than by a rigid plan. He describes the music as a tool to translate feelings that are difficult to articulate, balancing heavy melancholy with a persistent sense of hope that remains visible beneath the surface.

Established in Heinola in 2025, Meret was founded on the desire to produce music that prioritizes emotional honesty over calculated production. The band’s identity centers on the contrast between sensitivity and weight, creating a dynamic soundscape where beautiful melodies coexist with darker tones. By focusing on powerful atmospheres and personal expression, the group aims to create an experience that feels authentic to their own inner vision.
