Disfiguring the Goddess has unveiled AWOL, the second single from the highly anticipated upcoming album Bloom. Arriving via Seek & Strike on July 31st, the track stands out as one of the record’s most unexpected moments. Mastermind Cameron Argon (better known as Big Chocolate) uses the song to showcase a more melodic and emotionally charged side of his long-running project, seamlessly balancing punishing riffs and crushing heaviness with memorable hooks and soaring dynamics.

Interestingly, the track’s distinctive melodic flavor was a total accident. Argon reveals that AWOL was written late in the session, intending it to be a brutal, mosh-ready banger. Instead, the writing process naturally unlocked a rock-like sensibility and an uplifting, push-forward lyrical energy. This shift even extended to the vocals, where unplanned, unpolished clean singing, originally tracked just to map out the melody, was kept in the final mix because it captured the exact right character for the song.

Musically, AWOL demonstrates the expanded creative range defining Bloom while keeping its feet firmly rooted in the classic Disfiguring the Goddess sound. Argon highlighted the track’s clever structural shifts between 4/4 and 6/8 time signatures, which injects a strong sense of movement and lift into the music without altering the actual tempo or key. Combined with a touch of wounded romanticism, the new single offers fans a compelling preview of what to expect when the full album drops late next month.
