Alternative rock outfit Please Use Right Excuses has delivered their most intimate work to date with the release of their new single, We Grieve. Marking a stark thematic shift from the social and political commentary of earlier tracks like Election and Tax, the new single offers a profound reflection on the heavy burden of grief, specifically the unimaginable loss of a child.
Led by multi-instrumentalist Bruno Costa, the track reunites the band’s original lineup, featuring drummer Junior and bassist/backing vocalist Aracelli. The group expands its musical horizons on the release, balancing delicacy and weight by pairing prominent, melancholic piano and organic guitars with a sweeping string quartet arranged by Marcos Alex Costa de Souza. While keeping their alternative essence intact, the composition pulls from cinematic influences like Arcade Fire and Evanescence, stepping beyond the traditional grunge roots of their previous material.
The immense emotional weight of We Grieve is directly reflected in its poignant cover art, which serves as a deeply personal tribute to Costa’s recently deceased nephew. The image portrays the child’s bedroom, his last toys, and a letter he wrote to his grandparents, serving as a permanent visual monument to affection and longing. Out now on all digital platforms, the single stands as a vulnerable, honest exploration of loss, memory, and the enduring power of love.
