All-star heavy music collective King Ultramega have joined forces with a powerhouse lineup to unleash a high-octane tribute cover of Soundgarden’s 1989 classic Loud Love. Fronted by Halestorm’s Lzzy Hale on vocals, alongside Testament guitarist Alex Skolnick and original Pearl Jam drummer Dave Krusen, the collaborative single was produced by Mark Menghi with a strict focus on capturing the analog warmth of the original recording. Beyond the musical homage to the late Chris Cornell, the release serves a vital dual purpose: raising crucial funds and awareness for MusiCares, the Recording Academy’s nonprofit providing mental health and addiction recovery services to the music community.

Rather than delivering a sterile, note-for-note copy of the Louder Than Love fan favorite, the musicians deliberately leaned into the raw, human element of the track. Lzzy Hale bypasses standard vocal imitation to internalize Cornell’s animalistic range and poetic authenticity, while Skolnick intentionally balances Kim Thayil’s signature groove and unpolished honesty with his own distinct guitar flavor. It avoids the trap of slick, modern overproduction, opting instead for a grittier performance that respects the spirit of the source material.

Reflecting on the overarching message and her vocal approach to the track, Lzzy Hale shares:

“If there was ever a time to be spreading a message of Loud Love, It’s now. I don’t think I’ve ever been a good imitator, but I did try to put myself in Chris’ shoes. It’s more about placing yourself inside the song so you can steal its soul. I like to imagine I am the writer and then go about making it my own whilst honoring the original.”
