Swedish forest metal outfit Besvärjelsen have shared a striking new lyric video for Drifters on a Quiet Stream, the latest glimpse into their forthcoming third full-length album, Till Glömskan Ad Oblivionem. Slated for release on August 28th via Magnetic Eye Records, the album’s dual Swedish and Latin title translates to “Into Oblivion.” The accompanying watercolor visualizer draws directly from the album’s cover art, utilizing surreal imagery to match the track’s haunting, melancholic atmosphere.

The foundation of the track came from an unexpected source of inspiration. Drummer Erik Bäckwall reveals that the song carried the working title Elton during its initial writing stages, nodding directly to the influence of Elton John’s classic songwriting structures. Originally meant to be a minor segment of a completely different track, the intro and main riff were spun out into a standalone piece at the urging of the band’s former bassist, resulting in a sweeping power ballad that stands out as a focal point of the new record.

The song takes an introspective turn, exploring the internal dialogue that follows a person through life. Vocalist Lea Amling Alazam used an old notebook fragment—a scribbled phrase reading “…my ghost and I”—as the emotional anchor for the track. The performance captures the delicate, often exhausting balance of living alongside your own anxiety, framing it not as an external enemy, but as a permanent companion that provides both comfort and harsh critique in equal measure.

“I’m not sure where I first came across this idea, but it stayed with me,” Alazam explains regarding the notebook entry. “It felt like a beautiful and honest way to describe living alongside your own anxiety, and I knew from the start that I wanted to build something around it.”
