Finnish melancholic metal outfit Segmentia have released Nuclear Sun, the second single from their forthcoming debut full-length album. Blending power metal foundations with dynamic shifts between delicate guitar passages and heavier, epic arrangements, the track marks a direct nod to songwriter Jere Luokkamรคkiโs tenure with power metal group Celesty.
Accompanied by a performance-focused music videoโserving as the second chapter in an ongoing audiovisual trilogyโthe release follows previous single Before the Dawn.
Songwriter Jere Luokkamรคki detailed the creative pivot and real-world inspiration behind the track:
“For me as a composer, Nuclear Sun was the moment I stopped being cautious about my power metal background. I laid the foundation for the song on a work trip to Kajaani. The wintry surroundings of the small town and the soldiers on the streets once again got me thinking about the state of the world and how we treat this planet. At times humanity seems determined to bring disaster upon itself, and that is the feeling I wanted to bring into the song.”
Vocalist Kansana, who co-wrote the lyrics, added perspective on the song’s thematic contrast:
“Jereโs song was clearly an ode to nature, and it fell to me to finish the unfinished lyrics. The melody is at times almost cheerful, but it is above all the lyrics that underline the deep despair that so often consumes me as well.”
Nuclear Sun is available now across all major digital streaming services, with the official music video streaming on YouTube.
