Italian melodic death-doom band Shores of Null have shared Son of the Tide, the second single from their forthcoming album Homesick, due for release on October 16th via Dusktone.

Accompanied by a lyric video created by longtime collaborator Davide Mancini of Dartworks and animated by Davide Billia, the track showcases the contrast at the centre of Shores of Nullโ€™s sound. Heavy, growled verses collide with a vast melodic chorus, while its lyrics explore solitude, fate and belonging through the recurring imagery of the sea.

Speaking about the song, vocalist Davide Straccione said:

โ€œThe tide becomes a metaphor for the forces that push and pull us through life, confronting us with fear, acceptance, anguish, and peace. The protagonist eventually stops fighting the tide and learns to move with it instead. Finding a fragile sense of peace in the inevitability of his own destiny.โ€

Set for release in October, Homesick examines the complicated idea of home as both a source of comfort and a place connected to pain, memory and unresolved emotions. The album features guest appearances from Natalie Koskinen of Shape of Despair, who contributes vocals to The Numbing Void, while Shaun MacGowan of My Dying Bride appears across several tracks, including violin on Dreaming of a Scar and The Numbing Void.

โ€œThe record is an exploration of the deeply ambiguous nature of โ€˜homeโ€™, a place of comfort and identity, but also of pain, fear, and unresolved memory. It is probably the most honest representation of who Shores of Null are today. Behind this record lies a meticulous amount of writing, rewriting, and pre-production work. At its core lies the idea of home as something deeply ambiguous: a place of comfort and belonging, but also of fear, pain, and memories we can never fully leave behind,โ€ adds Straccione.

Following albums including Quiescence, Black Drapes for Tomorrow, Beyond the Shores and The Loss of Beauty, alongside the 2025 split release Latitudes of Sorrow with Convocation, Homesick sees Shores of Null continuing to refine their blend of melodic death-doom. The album follows previous single Bleed to Life and provides another look at the bandโ€™s upcoming release.
