Italian deathcore outfit Drown In Sulphur have released their latest single and accompanying music video, Groan From The IXth Circle, through Noble Demon.

Taken from the upcoming EP Strix, due out on September 11, the track follows June’s New Moon Rising On Florence and offers another glimpse into the direction of the band’s revamped line-up.

Now part of the Noble Demon roster, Drown In Sulphur are embracing a more aggressive approach with Strix, moving away from some of the heavier symphonic elements of their earlier material in favour of a sound built around the chaotic energy of MySpace-era deathcore and the cold atmosphere of black metal.

According to the band, Groan From The IXth Circle explores Lucifer’s fall through the frozen depths of Dante’s Inferno, drawing inspiration from the Ninth Circle of Hell, Cocytus. Musically, the track combines relentless deathcore intensity with glacial black metal-inspired riffing, reflecting the bleak landscape at the centre of Dante’s vision.

The song also examines the idea of betrayal from a different perspective, questioning the conflict between knowledge, freedom and control through the relationship between Lucifer, humanity and a ruler determined to keep mankind enslaved.

Strix will be released digitally on September 11 through Noble Demon.
