Fourteen years is a long time between albums, but Czech progressive death metal outfit Mindwork are finally back. The band will release Adrift, their first full-length since 2012’s Eterea, on August 27 as an independent release.

Formed in 2007, Mindwork quickly made an impression on the Czech metal scene, earning two Anděl Award nominations before stepping away from full-length releases. They resurfaced in 2021 with the EP Cortex, and Adrift now sees the band picking up where they left off.

Rather than simply delivering another collection of songs, Adrift is built around the devastating effects of Alzheimer’s disease. Across its nine tracks, the album explores the gradual loss of memory, identity and perception, combining progressive death metal with atmospheric passages to reflect its subject matter. The record also includes a reinterpretation of The Party’s Over by Talk Talk.

Mindwork’s return follows years spent building a reputation both at home and abroad. The band have shared the stage with Cynic, Nocturnus and Suffocation, while appearing four times at Brutal Assault. Their albums Into The Swirl and Eterea were also released in the United States through DiveBomb Records.

Adrift arrives on August 27 as a self-released album.
