The collaboration between Chilean metal band Pronoias and Finnish vocalist Nitte Valo began with a walk through a forest and, rather unexpectedly, a little help from the band’s audience. The result is We Are The Same, a new single featuring Valo that was released on August 5 and performed live that same day in Helsinki.

Written by Félix Barros after the melody and lyrics reportedly arrived simultaneously during a stroll near Helsinki, the track brings together Spanish and English with references to Finnish and Mapudungun. Its central idea is the connection between people and cultures, drawing particular inspiration from the long-standing relationship between Chilean metal audiences and Finland’s metal scene.

The Finnish connection extends beyond the song itself. While developing We Are The Same, Pronoias shared previews through TikTok and Instagram and asked followers to suggest languages, cultural references and even the Finnish vocalist they should invite to appear on the track. Nitte Valo’s name came directly from those suggestions, eventually turning an audience recommendation into an actual collaboration.

Valo, known for her work with Dreamtale and Bad Marilyn as well as her former tenure with Battle Beast, joined Pronoias for the song’s live debut at Helsinki’s Semifinal on August 5 during the band’s first European tour. The performance formed part of the Chilean Metal Showcase.
