I hate spiders. Horrible creepy crawly bastards. Too many legs, too many eyes, fucking fangs! Utter nightmare fuel. So, you can imagine my delight when I sat down and viewed the trailer for Crawlers.

Formerly known as Arachnid, the new horror film is heading to US cinemas nationwide on October 16 through Roadside Attractions and Saban Films, with the release date having been moved from its previously announced October 2 slot.

Matilda Lutz (Revenge) stars as Serena, the manager of the Paradiso Palms apartment complex, whose already miserable working life takes a considerable turn for the worse when the building becomes overrun by venomous spiders.

The spider outbreak leaves the residents trapped inside the complex under quarantine, with Serena forced to use her knowledge of the building to help keep them alive as the infestation spreads.

And judging by the trailer, that’s going to involve spiders getting into places where spiders have absolutely no fucking business being. Including the possibility of waking up after accidentally swallowing one. Because apparently sleeping peacefully was too much to ask.

Crawlers is directed by Angel Gómez Hernández (Don’t Listen) from a screenplay by Jayson Rothwell, whose previous credits include Polar and Silent Night.

The film is also the first feature from Badlands, a new production collaboration between Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee’s Thunder Road, the company behind John Wick and Sicario, and veteran studio executive Scott Strauss, whose credits include the Resident Evil and Underworld franchises.

So yes, if you’ve ever looked at an ordinary apartment building and thought, “This seems reasonably safe,” congratulations: Crawlers is here to ruin that comforting illusion.
