Blood, guts, and mutated killer sheep. This is the kind of shit I live for.

Twenty years after unleashing one of the finest horror-comedies to ever come out of New Zealand, writer-director Jonathan King is finally returning to the farm. Umbrella Entertainment has dropped the official trailer for Black Sheeps, and it looks like a proper dose of unhinged, genetically modified livestock carnage.

Original star Nathan Meister is back as Henry Oldfield, because apparently surviving a wave of rabid, flesh-eating ewes once just wasn’t enough trauma for one lifetime. The sequel follows a young scientist who tracks a dangerous new pathogen straight back to her hometown, which happens to sit right in the shadow of the cursed sheep station where the original massacre went down.

Naturally, it isn’t long before the local livestock starts turning people into chew toys again.

Joining Meister for the second round of ovine slaughter are Tabatha Killick, Lucia Davison, Joseph Witkowski, Ian Harcourt, Heather O’Carroll, Paul Waggott, and Renaye Tamati.

Crucially, King and Meister have re-teamed with the legendary practical FX crew at Wētā Workshop to handle the creature effects. That means we’re getting proper, gnarly, rubber-and-fake-blood gore instead of lazy digital CGI nonsense.

Black Sheeps hits New Zealand cinemas on November 12. If you have a soft spot for unpretentious Kiwi splatter cinema, this looks like a very welcome trip back to the slaughterhouse.
