Writer and director Andrés Beltrán (Quicksand, Tarumama) is bringing his new psychological horror Postmortem to Screamfest LA, where the film will make its World Premiere on October 10.

Odette Annable (Cloverfield) leads the cast as Helena Martinez, a grieving medical examiner running a small-town morgue on the California–Mexico border while quietly falling apart six months after the sudden death of her husband.

Her carefully controlled existence goes completely to shit when sixteen corpses turn up at once, the aftermath of an elderly cult who carried out a mass suicide ritual in an attempt to resurrect their leader.

When Helena discovers that the cult filmed the entire thing on a camcorder and that one member actually survived, she’s offered the chance to finish the ritual herself.

Naturally, she just happens to have a body of her own ready to go.

Alongside Annable, the film stars Tony Revolori (Scream VI), Julio César Cedillo (Sicario), Allegra Leguizamo, Andrés Londoño and Chelsea Harris.

If you prefer your horror built around grief and denial rather than another lazy collection of jump scares, Postmortem sounds like it could be worth keeping an eye on.
