Chicago quartet Selenoplexia are back with their second full-length, Beneath the Lunar Tyrant, throwing their brand of progressive blackened death metal straight into full-blown concept album territory.
Recorded in the Pocono Mountains with Colin Marston, the 37-minute record unfolds across a prologue and five chapters following a young heroโs battle against an evil sorcerer named Uldor. Expect demigods, holy warfare and ancient power struggles, with the band weaving atmospheric passages and abrupt shifts into a sound that isnโt afraid to get properly dissonant.
It follows their 2023 debut Exalt and Despair and a run of Midwest shows alongside the likes of Goatwhore, Maul and Morta Skuld.
Beneath the Lunar Tyrant is out today for anyone who likes their extreme metal with a healthy dose of high-fantasy madness.
