Dark metal duo Upon Shadows have released The Great Shadow, available now across digital platforms and Bandcamp. The track serves as the opening preview for the group’s upcoming studio album, Golden Flame, marking their first new material following a long-running series of atmospheric releases.

Composed, recorded, and mixed by multi-instrumentalist Tamara Picardo alongside bassist Natalia Arocena, the track was mastered by Tony Lindgren at Fascination Street Studios in Sweden. Lyrically and conceptually, the piece centers on themes of philosophical awakening and esoteric rebellion, setting the intellectual tone for the forthcoming full-length.

Formed in Montevideo, Uruguay, in 2002 and operating for over two decades, the project continues to merge dense dark metal arrangements with experimental and ambient textures. Musically, the new single relies on heavy atmospheric layering and direct riff structures to explore the duo’s long-standing focus on mythology and the human condition.

Upon Shadows’ upcoming album Golden Flame is scheduled for release in 2027.
