20 years. 20 fucking years I’ve been waiting for even a glimmer of hope that Leslie Vernon would rise again. And now, that glimmer has arrived.

The cult slasher mockumentary, and the most underrated horror movie of all time, Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon is officially getting a sequel, with Behind the Mask II: The Return of Leslie Vernon now in the works.

This isn’t a drill, people!

The man who treated serial killing like a TED Talk with cardio is stepping back into the spotlight.

Director Scott Glosserman and writer David J. Stieve are both returning, alongside original cast members Nathan Baesel, Angela Goethals, and the legend himself, Robert Englund. Glosserman has made it clear this didn’t crawl out of the grave on its own. Fans kept the original alive, sharing it, quoting it, passing it around like some cursed VHS that refuses to stay buried. According to him, that’s the whole reason this sequel is happening in the first place.

And in true indie horror fashion, there’s a Kickstarter campaign launching to help push things further. The film’s happening regardless, but more backing means more chaos, bigger set pieces, more cameos, more room for Leslie to really stretch his legs and get creative with the whole rising slasher icon thing.

Production is being handled by Paper Street Pictures, led by Aaron B. Koontz and Cameron Burns, who’ve been quietly keeping the flame alive behind the scenes for years.

No release date yet. No footage. No teaser.Just the confirmation that Leslie Vernon, the smartest, strangest, and most self-aware killers the genre ever coughed up, is coming back.

And honestly? It’s about damn time.
