Newborn is one of those trailers I watch, every so often, that leaves me sat afterwards, with a puzzled look on my face going: “Huh…”

Not in a bad way, not at all, but in a head scratching I have no idea what the fuck I just watched but damn if if I’m not very intrigued, kind of way.

The premise is as follows:

Chris Newborn (David Oyelowo) is released from prison, having spent seven years in solitary confinement, and sets about trying to rebuild his life with his family. They decide to take a trip away from the city to give them all some breathing space and time to readjust to each other, but the second that they step through the doors of the lodge they are staying at (the scariest looking lodge since the Overlook Hotel, I might add) things start going south as Chris Newborn’s mind starts to unravel.

Written and directed by Nate Parker, and starring the aforementioned David Oyelowo, alongside Christina Lee Storm, Aaron L. Gilbert, Olivia Washington, Barry Pepper, Jimmie Fails, and Aiden Stoxx, Newborn will hit AMC cinemas exclusively on April 10th, via Mansa.
