Never being one to look a gift horse in the mouth, The Asylum have released Frankenstein’s Bride onto digital platforms, a couple of weeks ahead of Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Bride!, which is due out March 6th.
When Frankenstein’s Monster is about to marry his bride, three men show up in the church, yell about blasphemy, and proceed to murder the shit out of him. But you can’t keep a good Monster down, and The Bride is soon resurrecting her fallen bow, except he seems to be a tad pissed off and goes about raising an army of the dead to take revenge on the world.
Directed by Erika Duke, written by M.L. Miller and Ryan Ebert, and starring Emma De Maria, Tayla Cecere, and Nick Launchbury, Frankenstein’s Bride seems to have all the usual madness you’d expect from The Asylum: lightning strikes, lots of fire, and CGI that bravely goes where physics fears to tread.
I’ll be honest here. I have zero interest in Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Bride!. In fact, the whole idea of taking two of my favorite characters of all time and turning them into Bonnie and Clyde pisses me off somewhat, but I won’t judge anyone who watches it and enjoys it. After all, it’s just a fucking movie.
For the rest of us, we can dive into Frankenstein’s Bride, and all the chaos, carnage, and “that’ll do” visual effects that only The Asylum can deliver with a straight face.
