This is fucking brutal.

The Furious isn’t easing you in with a warm-up, it’s kicking the door off its hinges and throwing four absolute monsters of martial arts cinema straight at you. Xie Miao, Joe Taslim, Jeeja Yanin, and Yayan Ruhian in the same film? That’s not a cast, that’s a warning label.

The setup wastes zero time: a man’s daughter is kidnapped, the police are useless, and suddenly it’s open season. Miao’s Wang Wei goes full scorched-earth, teaming up with Taslim’s journalist, another man with everything to lose and nothing left to negotiate. What follows looks less like a rescue mission and more like a series of increasingly bad days for anyone standing in their way.

And behind the chaos? Tanigaki Kenji calling the shots and choreographing the carnage, backed by producer Bill Kong, so yeah, this thing has serious pedigree when it comes to people getting launched through furniture at high speed.

But the real wild card here is Xie Miao. If you know, you know. Former child prodigy from the Jet Li era, now a full-grown wrecking machine who’s been quietly stacking bodies (on screen) for years. This feels like his big “everyone pay attention” moment, and he’s not arriving quietly.

The Furious hits theaters May 29, and it already looks like the kind of film where the plot is revenge, the fists are fast, and mercy is in very short supply.
