AEW Dynamite is at its best when it remembers that wrestling doesnโ€™t need to be complicated.

Sometimes you just need a new World Champion, the commentators trying not to say the wrong name, someone getting beaten half to death, Thekla using the expression โ€œdumb bitchโ€ four times in one sentence, and Jon Moxley being handed a title match with Will Ospreay.

So yeah, there was quite a bit on this weekโ€™s Dynamite that put a stupid grin on my face.

Will Ospreay Is AEW World Champion

After putting on an all-time great match at All In with Kenny Omega, Will Ospreay started Dynamite as your new AEW World Champion.

I donโ€™t care that it was the usual โ€œletโ€™s talk for 15 minutes before other people come out and interrupt meโ€ routine.

Will Fucking Ospreay is your new AEW World Champion and that is all that matters, Bruv.

The Announcers Managing to Not Call The New Level The New Day

I mean, thatโ€™s gotta have had Tony Schiavone and Excalibur waking up in cold sweats over the past few nights, hugging their oversized MJF dolls and wondering why the fuck Austin Creed and Kofi hadnโ€™t gone for a complete name change instead of just switching out one word.

Itโ€™s gonna happen. Just you watch.

And the second it does, Tony Khanโ€™s phone is gonna light up like a Christmas tree as the WWE lawyers bombard him with cease-and-desist orders.

The Trios Championship Match Doesnโ€™t Just Become The New Level Show

And letโ€™s face it, it couldโ€™ve.

Everyone is so fucking high on the fact that Creed and Kofi are in AEW that they couldโ€™ve just shown up, broken out the greatest hits, and picked up an easy win. However, that didnโ€™t happen.

Everyone got involved, allowing their partner Swerve Strickland and their opponents, The Rascalz, to shine brightly alongside them.

Weโ€™re The New Level and Swerve really gonna lose their titles in a few days? Hell no. But the fact that all six men got to show off what theyโ€™re capable of, including Myron Reed diving onto Creed on the outside and somehow managing to hit a Hurricanrana on Strickland at the same fucking time, shows that these veterans understand something important: being the entire show is best left to the Hulk Hogans of this world.

Mark Davis Murders Darby Allin

Right up to the point Darby made his comeback, obviously.

Until then, however, Mark Davis beat Darby Allin like a rented mule, including a fucking one-handed powerbomb after the โ€œbabyfaceโ€ had tied him up with the tag rope to stop the assault he was taking.

This was less of a wrestling match and more of a public execution. Brutal as fuck.

Thekla Is Bat Shit Crazy

As Mercedes Monรฉ was throwing a celebration for herself, The Toxic Spider, Thekla, interrupted to put the champ on notice. And holy shit, this woman is a fucking mental.

I got a genuine laugh-out-loud moment when she managed to use the expression โ€œdumb bitchโ€ four times in one sentence, which is an achievement Iโ€™m pretty sure deserves its own championship belt.

Thekla is bat shit crazy, but sheโ€™s entertaining on a whole other level.

Will Ospreay vs. Jon Moxley Made Official for All Out

Yeah.

If this donโ€™t get you hyped like a tweaker taking their first hit of the day, then perhaps wrestling isnโ€™t for you.

Will Ospreay vs. Jon Moxley.

At All Out.

Fucking hell.

And thatโ€™s Dynamite.

No star rating, no grand verdict and no attempt to tell you whether this was objectively a good wrestling show. These were simply six things that made me enjoy the time I spent watching it.

Sometimes thatโ€™s all you need.

There was enough here to make me laugh, shout at the television, wince at the violence and, on more than one occasion, wonder exactly what the fuck Iโ€™d just watched.

And frankly, that sounds like a pretty good night of wrestling to me.
