Dystopian black metal project Abhoria have released Ambition and Delusion, a standalone single and accompanying music video serving as the first preview of their forthcoming third full-length, scheduled for release in 2027 via Swedish imprint Black Lion Records. The track arrives alongside a regional Southwest U.S. tour alongside Colorado folk-doom act Velnias.

The composition expands the band’s core mix of dissonant black metal and death metal intensity, incorporating progressive pacing shifts that transition from heavy mid-tempo grooves into rapid tremolo picking and blast beats. Notably, the arrangement includes a steel guitar interlude performed by vocalist Ben Pitts, a non-traditional element for the genre, preceding the main guitar solo.

The track takes a historical perspective, examining 19th-century publishing magnate James Gordon Bennett Jr. Written from Bennett’s point of view, the text scrutinizes his reckless ambition, public scandals, and ill-fated Arctic expeditions as manifestations of unchecked ego and delusion.

The visual component, directed by Hunter Lamar of Digital Myle (who previously directed 2024’s The Well), contrasts band performance footage with stylized silent cinema vignettes, complete with period-appropriate title cards and framing inspired by classic early-20th-century film.

Audio mixing was handled by Herbrand Larsen at Conclave and Earshot Studios, with final mastering completed by Tony Lindgren at Fascination Street Studios.

Ambition and Delusion is available digitally via Black Lion Records.
