If youโ€™ve spent any time wading through the Funeral Doom underbelly, youโ€™re likely familiar with Aimeric Lerat, better known as Hangsvart, the man behind Abysmal Growls Of Despair.

Now Lerat is branching out with a new Death/Doom project, Abysmal Rage, and theyโ€™ve signed with Wormholedeath for the release of their debut full-length, A House No One Could Live In, on November 6.

While Abysmal Growls Of Despair are perfectly happy dragging you through painfully slow, ritualistic drone, Abysmal Rage are taking a rather more direct approach.

Armed with 8-string guitars and 5-string bass, the project is built around a much heavier Death/Doom sound, combining the suffocating weight of Ataraxie and Stomach Earth with the kind of blunt-force death metal that makes Immolation and Cannibal Corpse such fucking monsters.

Donโ€™t expect much in the way of polished modern production either. Abysmal Rage are apparently more interested in making the music sound heavy as fuck than making it sound pretty.

The artwork and lyrics come from artist Ophidia XIII, with the material drawing on personal trauma, blasphemy and bleak spiritual imagery.

To give us a first taste of whatโ€™s coming, Abysmal Rage have released an official video for the albumโ€™s title track, A House No One Could Live In.

Because apparently one miserable Death/Doom project wasnโ€™t enough, Lerat is already working on a second Abysmal Rage album, this time focusing on animistic beliefs.

Taking a breather clearly isnโ€™t on the agenda.
