Dublin extreme metal crew Fraught have signed with Apocalyptic Witchcraft for the release of Pillar I: Ashes Of Verdant Collapse, a two-track EP arriving next month. Formed in 2018 by veterans of the Irish underground with ties to Coldwar, Mortichnia, Slave Zero, and Wound Upon Wound, the release marks the first installment of a planned EP trilogy intended to eventually form a single full-length collection.
Recorded at Last Light Studios and mixed and mastered by Shauny Cadogan (Coscradh, Diocletian, Malthusian), the tracks discard refined polish in favor of raw blackened death metal aggression and suffocating sludge dynamics. Lyrically, the material takes aim at human exceptionalism, industrial consumption, and ecological decay, framing modern civilization as an unsustainable system feeding on its own destruction.
The EP opens with the violent, mid-tempo assault of Death Assemblage, balancing frantic riffing with sparse, desolate guitar melodies. That leads into the unrelenting pace of Detritivore, a heavy, noise-drenched track that relies on cavernous vocal delivery, harsh feedback loops, and a grinding, abrasive finish.
Featuring sleeve illustrations by Jamie Gavin, the recording will be issued on limited-edition cassette and digital formats.
Pillar I: Ashes Of Verdant Collapse drops November 7th.
