There are limited releases, and then there’s this, blink and it’s gone forever.

On April 24, Apocalyptic Witchcraft will drop an ultra-limited edition of Askdrömmar, the latest album from Frozen Ocean. Titled the Urban Depression Edition, the run is capped at just 25 copies. No repress, no second chance, no ‘we found a box in the warehouse’ six months later.

The release packages the album in a CD digipack, but that’s just the starting point. Each copy is wrapped in Swedish newspaper pages and bound in twine, leaning fully into the project’s bleak, tactile aesthetic. It also includes a hand-made Frozen Ocean logo magnet, created by the artist behind the project, Vaarwel.

And then it gets stranger, in a good way. Vaarwel has laser-engraved the Frozen Ocean logo onto glass microscope slides, reportedly sourced from a derelict, abandoned school. Those slides are included with the release, turning each copy into something closer to an artefact than a standard album package.

Askdrömmar itself blends atmospheric Black Metal with Depressive Rock, and this version doubles down on that mood. Less merch, more ‘object you’d find in a place you probably shouldn’t be’.

Grab yourself a copy before it’s too late by heading over to the Apocalyptic Witchcraft Bandcamp page.
