Progressive rock outfit Bastion Rose have released their new single, Someday, marking a powerful return following a prolonged period of enforced silence. The heavy, riff-driven track serves as the latest preview of the band’s upcoming album, Blue Rising.

The driving energy behind Someday stands in stark contrast to the circumstances that preceded its creation. Only a few years ago, frontman and guitarist Austin Frink was forced to step away from music entirely while undergoing surgery and treatment for cancer, closely following the loss of both of his parents.

“I fought my own physical war not to join them,” Frink shares. “I did not sing. After surgery and treatment, I couldn’t. But hope has a way of coercing those in despair back to motion. To build. To survive. The whisper became a croak. The croak became a quiet, hoarse note. That note became a roar. Bastion Rose is the roar.”

Musically, Someday builds upon the polished, high-production alternative rock framework established on the band’s previous material, pairing aggressive instrumentation with an expansive, melodic hook. While their earliest work focused heavily on the gruelling realities of survival, the new track shifts toward a theme of personal reclamation.

“It is the moment you finally stand up,” Frink explains. “You realize that you alone have the power to rebuild your reality. You are the creator of your world.”

Backed by recent praise from publications like SPIN and Metal Hammer, Bastion Rose are currently preparing for the release of Blue Rising, alongside planning an international touring campaign and looking ahead to future material.

“There is no light without the weight of the dark,” says Frink. “Scars persist, but in fact compose the art of ourselves. We are powerful, fragile things, expanding and dissolving. How beautiful it is to build and to grow and to reach for the sky as long as we live and breathe.”
