Bogotá-based heavy quartet Poison The Preacher have released their new crossover EP, Things I Want, via Seek and Strike. The release is accompanied by a music video for the new single Ran Out Of Options, a track that explores the psychological weight of ambition and the pursuit of demanding personal goals.

Emerging from the Colombian underground heavy music scene, the band’s style forms a direct intersection of hardcore grooves, thrash riffs, and death metal elements. To capture this raw energy, the EP was mixed and mastered by Charles Toshio, known for his work with notable hardcore acts like Sunami, Spy, and Gulch.

For vocalist Carrera, dismantling rigid genre divisions is central to the project’s identity:

“This is metal made for hardcore kids, but this is also hardcore made for metalheads. With this new release, those lines between genres have blurred more and more.”

While Things I Want maintains the aggressive musical foundation of their earlier work, its lyrical focus shifts toward darker, psychological themes. Inspired by obsession and unfulfilled dreams, the EP’s artwork features a mutilated Daruma doll—a traditional Japanese symbol of perseverance and goal-setting—with one eye violently torn away.

“The EP talks about broken dreams, toxic purposes, things that you would give your entire life to, but they may never become true,” Carrera explains. “It’s a testament to obsession and ambition, in both a good and a bad way. It’s okay to have a purpose, to have a dream that you want with all your heart, but you can’t let it consume you and destroy your life.”
