Canadian doom/sludge quartet Destroy My Brains have released WILT, the final chapter in their planned five-album W.I.L.T. series.

The title refers to Worthless, InsignifiCan’t, Lifeless and Tormented, with the series exploring self-destruction, trauma and the experiences that have shaped the band’s music. WILT brings the long-running concept to its conclusion.

Destroy My Brains formed in Lloydminster when vocalist Jarret and drummer Jadan began turning basement jams into a band. Their sound draws heavily from sludge metal, with the band describing their approach as corrosive and influenced by Crowbar.

The band recorded WILT at Doom Tomb Recording Studio. Jarret handles vocals, Jadan plays drums, Rob provides bass and Chase handles guitar, with the record built around heavy grooves, thick bass, fuzz-soaked riffs and harsh vocals.

The album’s songs deal with subjects including OCD, ritual sacrifice, societal expectations, psychological torment, manipulation, overdose, childhood violence and emotional shutdown. OCI focuses on an OCD-driven breakdown, while Burn the Virgin explores ritual sacrifice and infernal doom. Avulsion uses the tearing of flesh as a metaphor for lifelong psychological torment, while Spill addresses childhood violence.

Downgrade combines punk and sludge while tackling manipulation, overdose and Satanic delusion, with a video for the track created by ShadowScape Pictures. The 11-minute WILT closes the album with a song centred on child abuse.

“As a whole, the album is an ode to pain, trauma, and hate so thick you can touch it,” says Jarret. “It’s riffs on top of riffs, and songs about ruin and degradation.”
