Heavy psych voyagers Elder are back in orbit, having unveiled Capture/Release, the second single from their upcoming album Through Zero, landing May 29th via Stickman Records (Europe/UK), Blues Funeral Recordings (North America), and Bird’s Robe (Australia).
This one hits more direct than you might expect. According to vocalist/guitarist Nick DiSalvo, Capture/Release pulls from an older idea and reshapes it into something that bridges past and present, bringing back some of the bandโs heavier riff-driven core while locking into their more galactic sized, modern approach.
Under the hood, thereโs more going on than just big guitars. The track taps into the grind of trying to exist as a creative voice in a system that constantly demands more, more content, more visibility, more noise, until the whole thing starts to feel like a machine you canโt step out of. Capture/Release pushes back against that, circling around the idea of holding onto the original spark: creating because you want to, not because youโre told to.
Itโs also, apparently, just fun to play, which in this context feels almost rebellious.
The upcoming Through Zero stretches across six tracks, continuing Elderโs habit of building songs that donโt just play out, they unfold, twist, and pull in influences from well outside the usual rock toolbox.
