UK progressive metal band Exist Immortal have revealed their new EP, Afterglow, due out on September 11 through Seek & Strike, alongside a new video for the EPโ€™s title track.

The five-track record was written during a period of considerable upheaval for Exist Immortal, including a lineup change, personal difficulties and health challenges, with the bandโ€™s future at one point genuinely uncertain. Rather than bringing the band to an end, the process of writing Afterglow became an opportunity to rebuild and reassess what Exist Immortal wanted to be.

The title track provides the clearest introduction to that approach, with the band describing it as โ€œthe opening statement and the most complete thing weโ€™ve made to dateโ€. The song confronts the wreckage surrounding the bandโ€™s recent experiences while looking towards rebuilding against the odds.

Musically, Afterglow retains the combination of progressive metal, metalcore, technicality and soaring melody that has defined Exist Immortal, while taking a more focused approach. The band describe the material as colder, heavier and more deliberate, with sharper songwriting, greater dynamic impact and a greater emphasis on making every riff and arrangement serve a purpose.

Exist Immortal have spent more than a decade developing their sound and have built an international reputation through touring across Europe, Asia and the Americas. Their live history includes appearances at Download Festival, Bloodstock Open Air, MetalDays, Euroblast, Maximum Rock Festival and Complexity Fest, alongside performances with SikTh, Textures, LANDMVRKS and Cynic. In 2022, they also headlined the main stage at UK Tech-Fest before following it with sold-out headline tours of Mexico and Japan.

For Exist Immortal, Afterglow represents a new chapter built from a period in which the bandโ€™s future was genuinely uncertain. The result is a more focused incarnation of the band, with a sound that leans colder, heavier and more deliberate while retaining the melodic and technical elements that have shaped their music.
