Finnish progressive folk/black metal group Jotungrav have announced their debut full-length album, Elegi, set for release on August 20th, 2026 via Inverse Records. Ahead of the album’s launch, the band has released its sole advance single, Återfödd.

Running over eight minutes, Återfödd (Swedish for “reborn”) marks a stylistic shift for the group. The track sets aside their typical black metal foundation in favor of a progressive melodic death and folk metal structure, drawing heavily on traditional Finnish folk music and waltz time signatures. The arrangement incorporates elements reminiscent of early Ensiferum, Wilderun, and Finsterforst, balancing energetic folk melodies with complex rhythmic shifts.

Lyrically, the track focuses on perseverance through purpose and tragedy, exploring how loss alters both the deceased and the survivor. The band comments on the track’s folk-inspired direction and thematic focus:

“’Återfödd’ sees Jotungrav embrace its folk metal roots more than on any other song from the band’s forthcoming album. It is largely inspired by Finnish folk music and waltzes, with time signatures that are less common in metal. As a fast and energetic song it features both uplifting melodies and majestic passages, some of which can be surprisingly danceable. The song is a rather noticeable departure from Jotungrav’s usual style, as on ‘Återfödd’ all black metal inspiration has been stripped down and replaced by elements found in progressive melodic death metal… The song focuses on one theme alone: the indomitable human spirit.”

Återfödd is available now across all major digital streaming platforms. Elegi arrives on August 20th, 2026 via Inverse Records.
