Kotka-based progressive death metal outfit Of Spite have returned with a new three-track short-length titled Raisu, offering an unfiltered slice of what the five-piece self-describe as “stumble-gore.” Free from studio trickery, modern pitch-correction, or sleek over-production, the release focuses on raw execution, blending stuttering progressive rock, old-school death metal, and unvarnished rock-and-roll ferocity.
The short-length opens with Crown of Holes, a track that pairs crushing riffs and progressive flourishes with lyrics that ditch the band’s usual esoteric narratives in favor of picking apart military “honor” propaganda. The middle slot goes to Outoon valoon, a heavy death metal reinterpretation of the track by legendary Finnish singer-songwriter Juice Leskinen. Long a staple of the group’s live set, the recorded version tweaks the original arrangement just enough to make it their own without straying into total disrespect.
Closing out the release is Serpent Coil, a track accompanied by a new music video that leans into driven, punk-infused rhythms to push a blood-soaked vampire story toward its conclusion. Across all three tracks, the band continues to hone a sound that relies heavily on deliberate, off-kilter dynamics, sounding very much like a band stumbling through heavy riffs by design rather than accident.
