Berlin-based cinematic gothic rock project Hideclose have returned with My Little Ghost, the final single preceding the release of their ambitious upcoming concept album, Promissum. Penned by Lenn Vane and brought to life by the performing collective The Veiled Librarians, the new track marks the project’s most intimate and theatrical arrangement to date.

The storytelling transports listeners straight into the foggy streets of Victorian London in 1889. The plot follows a routine criminal interrogation between Inspector Edward Sutton and Annie “Little Ghost” Blackwell, a member of the notorious, all-female Forty Elephants gang. Desperate to escape the gallows, Annie manipulates the truth, shifting the blame for the murder of Agnes Hill onto Professor Dario Valperga. This devastating false testimony twists the album’s overarching narrative into a much darker, psychological territory.

The song mirrors this theatrical tension by expanding Hideclose’s vocal dynamic, introducing a striking female vocal performance to capture Annie’s deceptive dialogue. The track meticulously blends gothic metal foundations, dark rock, and doom-laden atmospheres with haunting orchestration and crushing guitar work. Every single element operates like a film score, reinforcing the project’s vision of an immersive rock opera.

“‘My Little Ghost’ turns a Victorian criminal interrogation into a dark, theatrical gothic rock/metal piece filled with manipulation, false testimony, and tragic accusation,” the project explains. “It is the most theatrical piece of the project so far, and I paid a lot of attention to the vocals. In my mind, there is a film script, and the music is its soundtrack. The whole project tells one story that will gradually unfold.”
