Illegal Mind has released a new single titled Never Wanted, a track that offers a fresh perspective on individual autonomy within modern society. Eschewing the typical tropes of aggressive rebellion, the song explores the idea of functioning within the system while intentionally refusing to align with its cultural expectations.

Maxx Dee, the creative force behind Illegal Mind, describes the track as a reflection on selective participation. The lyrics delve into the decision to reject social conditioning and the default scripts, such as specific career paths, traditional timelines, and repetitive domestic cycles, that are often followed without question. For Dee, the goal isn’t to leave society entirely, but to stop automatically syncing with its standardized routines.

The song also examines the defensive nature of those who cling to these normalized patterns, even when they find little fulfillment in them. Through the central refrain regarding a refusal to join a forced sense of normality, the music avoids becoming a manifesto. Instead, it serves as a straightforward statement that participating in the world does not require a complete surrender of one’s personal identity or choices.

The project originated in 2018 in Tel Aviv as a dystopian-themed band, later transitioning into a solo venture for Maxx Dee. This shift allowed for a more direct, self-produced sound that balances punk energy with easycore and pop-punk influences. Never Wanted serves as a bridge toward the upcoming album, Nuclear Cockroach, continuing the projectโ€™s ongoing exploration of the friction between social repetition and personal independence.
