Back in 2010, Insidious cracked open the door to The Further and politely suggested we never, ever look inside. Naturally, being the crazy bastards we are, we promptly stuck our heads through and scared the shite out of ourselves. Now, Insidious: Out of the Further is here to remind us that things can always get worse because this time, the nightmare isnโ€™t staying put.

Directed by Jacob Chase, the film follows Gemma (Amelia Eve), a young mother trying to build a normal life in her childhood home. But as this is the Insidious universe, normal life is basically a myth told to children right before the ghosts show up. Gemma discovers she can slip into The Further, that deeply unpleasant dimension of lost souls and evil thatโ€™s on another level, with the kne side effect to her little trips there being, she bring things back with her.

And yeah, thatโ€™s exactly as catastrophic as it sounds.

Once the residents of The Further clock what she can do, itโ€™s game on. No more lurking in the shadows, no more creepy astral peeking, theyโ€™re crossing over, stretching their legs, and turning the real world into their own personal haunted playground. Itโ€™s less of a haunting and more of a full-blown supernatural jailbreak.

The trailer leans hard into that classic Insidious nightmare fuel. It kicks off with a dental visit that feels like it was designed by a sadistic demon with a grudge against molars, before spiralling into full surreal chaos, complete with an endless, hellish pillow fort that looks like it was stitched together from childhood comfort and monsters.

Lots and lots of monsters.

Insidious: Out of the Further hits cinemas August 21st.

Sleep tight. If you can.
