UK quartet Lifeswallower have unveiled The Trees Hide Their Bodies, the latest preview of their self-titled debut EP, due out on September 1 through Prog On! Recordings.
The band began on England’s south coast as a casual project centred around playing 1990s death metal covers. Those rehearsals eventually developed into something considerably more ambitious, with the four musicians abandoning the covers and turning their attention towards original material shaped by their broad range of influences.
That material has now become Lifeswallower, a four-track EP drawing from progressive metal, death metal, thrash and other corners of heavy music. Rather than settling into a single approach, the band move between blast-driven intensity, complex arrangements and heavier groove-focused passages, with an emphasis on songwriting and dynamics.
The Trees Hide Their Bodies offers another glimpse of that approach, combining weight and tension with an uneasy atmosphere while moving between the band’s heavier and more progressive tendencies.
