Canadian Symphonic Power Metal veterans Liva have just dropped a lyric video for their latest single, Samson & Dalila, Pt. 1, giving fans a deeper look at the Latin text driving their new material. The track is the first taste of their upcoming album, Ecce Mundus, which is set to arrive on May 29, 2026, via Wormholedeath.
The song itself is a bit of a deep dive into biblical tragedy, drawing from a medieval Latin planctus, essentially a song of lament. It follows the rise and fall of Samson, moving from his legendary feats of strength to the crushing weight of his eventual betrayal and imprisonment. By keeping the lyrics entirely in Latin, Liva highlights the contrast between Samsonโs unstoppable power and his final, fragile collapse. The new lyric video is a deliberate move to put those ancient words front and center, letting the narrative resonate alongside the band’s trademark operatic intensity.โ
As one of the first Canadian acts to really bridge the gap between Classical Opera and Metal, Liva has a pretty impressive track record for being avant-garde. Theyโve spent decades interpreting Latin masses and 12th-century theological texts, even winning awards for their fusion of the two worlds and sharing stages with heavyweights like Nightwish and Voivod.โ
The lineup for Ecce Mundus features soprano Nadine Guertin alongside Pier Carlo Liva on vocals and guitars, with Martin Tremblay on bass and Claude Lacroix on drums. While Lacroix handled the kit for the recording, the band has since welcomed Philippe Leblanc as their new permanent drummer.
If youโre a fan of the symphonic grandiosity of bands like Therion but want something with a bit more historical and linguistic grit, Liva’s return is definitely one to watch this May.
