Atlanta blackened death/thrash outfit Malefic have unveiled the official video for Blood of the Throne, the opening track from their latest album, Impermanence, released in February via Terminus Hate City.

One of the standout cuts from the record, Blood of the Throne blends high-speed blackened thrash riffing with intricate drumming and a soaring melodic passage. The accompanying video takes an unexpected visual direction, contrasting the band’s extreme metal aesthetic with Atlanta’s hip-hop culture as a reflection of the city that shaped them.

Discussing the concept, drummer and vocalist Aaron Baumoel said:

“People will always judge based on their preconceived notion of things without ever digging in below the surface. This is part of the sickness in our society. We all know who the real demons of our society are; we just don’t agree on what the solution is.”

The track examines capitalism and modern power structures, themes that continue throughout Impermanence. Mixed by Alex Parra, the album combines blackened thrash aggression with melodic black metal, technical death metal precision and progressive rhythmic shifts, while favouring a dynamic, organic production over heavily compressed modern metal standards.

Speaking about the album’s production, Baumoel added:

“We wanted something that still showcased the nuances in the guitar work, the dynamics in the drumming, and allowed for mistakes. It just needed to feel human. The personal struggles, the current socio-political issues, and the societal struggles all seemed extremely relatable… they tell the tale of the ever-changing nature of life as a whole.”

Formed in 2007, Malefic continue to build on their blend of blackened death and thrash metal while drawing on the experience of Atlanta’s underground scene. Blood of the Throne provides another striking introduction to Impermanence and its uncompromising take on modern extreme metal.
