Finnish outfit Morbid Intent have officially released their debut EP, Marionettes, issuing the five-track collection through Inverse Records following a preliminary rollout of standalone singles. Hailing from Oulu, the group features a veteran lineup drawn from established Finnish acts including Mors Subita, Electric Deathbeat, Swansong, and Se, Josta Ei Puhuta.
Building directly on the sound introduced on earlier tracks Ashen Veil and Vitriol Shards, the record pairs traditional ’90s Gothenburg-style melodic death metal with modern extreme metal production. The arrangements rely on rapid blast beats, twin-guitar riffing, and aggressive vocal work, prioritizing velocity and memorable lead lines over experimental flourishes.

Lyrically, the EP adopts a dark, psychological focus, examining systemic oppression, psychological manipulation, and the fallout of toxic interpersonal communication. The songs analyze how institutional and emotional control break down individual autonomy, matching the record’s aggressive musical backdrop with cynical, grounded themes.
Physical and digital formats are available now via Inverse Records.
