Finnish progressive melodic death metal band Numento have dropped new single, One With The Void. Acting as a metaphorical portrayal of a painful death, the track sees the outfit briefly revisiting their older musical roots. The dark story behind the song draws direct inspiration from a sinister natural phenomenon: Ophiocordyceps unilateralis, the notorious zombie-ant fungus that infects, manipulates, and completely takes control of its host before destroying it.
Appropriately mirroring its parasitic subject matter, the composition moves through agonizingly oppressive soundscapes, twisting in pain before arriving at an unavoidable dark demise, only for the cycle of infection to start anew. Beyond the biological horror, the band subtly utilizes the narrative to reflect on destructive human behavioral patterns, particularly examining the psychological weight of crime, manipulation, and cult dynamics.
The track combines old-school melodic death metal energy with contemporary progressive aggression, creating a dynamic and hard-hitting listening experience.
