Bogotรก outfit Poison The Preacher are moving fast. Hot on the heels of the critical buzz surrounding their 2025 debut album Vs The World, the Colombian crossover unit has announced a new EP titled Things I Want, arriving July 17th, via Seek and Strike.ย ย
To anchor the announcement, the band has delivered a fierce opening statement with their new single, Chicken Out. Mixed and mastered by Charles Toshio (Sunami, Spy), the track pulls the band into a much more introspective space than their usual volatile mix of Thrash and Death Metal.
Though don’t be under any illusions, itโs still heavy as fuck.
Vocalist and guitarist Juan Pablo Carrera describes it as his most candid writing to date, dissecting how the fear of emotional vulnerability can sabotage a relationship before it even begins.ย ย
That willingness to expose a raw nerve matches the band’s ongoing sonic evolution. Carrera describes the new material as a space where genre boundaries disappear entirely, resulting in a heavier, more refined sound meant to bridge the gap between hardcore purists and metalheads.
This duality of aggressive energy and deeper psychological focus defines the entire EP. Things I Want looks closely at the dangers of unchecked ambition and toxic fixations, a theme visually mirrored on the record’s cover, which features a mutilated Japanese Daruma doll with one eye violently gouged out. According to Carrera, the project acts as a definitive cautionary tale about letting your dreams consume your entire life.
