Following the September 2025 arrival of their sophomore studio album, Prophets of the Void, melodic death metal outfit Progeny of Sun have returned with a brand new single titled Unified Light. Accompanied by an official music video, the track serves as an early preview of the band’s next chapter while their third full-length album continues through the writing and composition phases.
The upcoming record is currently slated for a 2027 release, promising a deeper dive into the punishing Death Metal soundscapes that maintain the bandโs signature habit of blending subgenres. Alongside their studio work, the group is preparing for active live duties; at the end of May, they will set out on their first brief international tour, mapping out dates across Finland, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.
The creation of Unified Light stemmed from an unconventional, rhythm-first writing experiment. Guitarist Joni notes that the track originated when drummer Juha expressed a desire to play more groove-oriented patterns. Songwriters Joni and Jaakko took the cue, letting Juha record a standalone drum track in the studio without any pre-written structures. To match the heavy foundations laid down by the percussion, Joni down-tuned his guitar lower than the band’s standard setup, a creative shift that challenged bassist Tuomo to hold down the low frequencies, while vocalist Niko gave his enthusiastic approval to the resulting heavy groove.
The results are nothing short of breathtaking.
