Reno, Nevada-based heavy rock four-piece Giant Skunk have released their debut full-length record, Nice To Meet You, introducing their self-described “indica punk sativa metal hybrid rock”—a volatile mix of ’90s grunge, modern groove metal, and traditional Brazilian rhythms.

The title Nice To Meet You is a literal greeting from a band brought together entirely by chance. Half the lineup—vocalist Daniel Zulian (São Paulo) and bassist Edson Junior (Aracaju)—hails from Brazil, while guitarist Rhett Lila and drummer Brayden Tripp relocated to Nevada from Duluth, Minnesota. The members crossed paths outside a snowy Reno venue in March 2025.

“Junior and Daniel were at Davidson’s talking about how they needed a drummer,” the band recalls. “Brayden overheard them and approached. They thought he was homeless and said, ‘We don’t have any money.’ A few weeks later, we had our first practice.”

That initial basement jam quickly cemented a highly collaborative partnership, driven by a dizzying range of shared influences that stretch from the Melvins and Cannibal Corpse to Brazilian composer Hermeto Pascoal and even the Backstreet Boys. The band describes the resulting sound simply as “System of a Down meets Hermeto Pascoal.”

Nice To Meet You prioritizes live-wire chemistry and unfiltered momentum. Tracks like the aggressive single Atlas 5-9 showcase the band’s heavier side through dense riffs and intense vocal delivery, while the sharp, erratic guitar work on further singles Rat Race and Parrot Vacation highlights their focus on syncopated, groove-heavy songwriting.
