French groove death metal outfit Sickmind have unveiled New God, the first single and official video from their forthcoming full-length album Babel Tower, due out on October 9.
Formerly known as Silicium, Sickmind operate in a dark and dystopian corner of groove death metal, with their music built around themes of collapse, desolation and a civilisation pushed towards extinction. New God introduces that world through crushing groove-driven riffs, dark atmospheric passages and an uncompromising sense of heaviness, while the accompanying video brings the bandโs post-apocalyptic vision into sharper focus.
The bandโs current incarnation traces its roots back to Silicium, originally formed in 2008. Following a period of rebuilding, the new lineup returned to the stage as the opening act for Aephanemer, with a sold-out show in Bordeaux in January 2023 marking the beginning of the bandโs new era.
Sickmind recorded a new EP in 2024, releasing it in December, before stepping up their live activity from 2025 onwards. Since then, the band have performed across France, Spain, Portugal and England, sharing stages with Eight Sins, Dagoba, Dygora, Gorod and The Great Old Ones.
New God now provides the first taste of Babel Tower, bringing Sickmindโs vision of a civilisation staring down its own extinction one crushing riff at a time.
